The Global Conflict Mod is a freeware modification for the game, Command & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour, which is a real time strategy game published by EA that has unfortunately decided not to release another sequel to the game. This particular modification is intended to address this problem by adding all the major military factions in the world, many real-world military units, and provide a lot of new content.
Some Features:
- Now Main Battle Tanks and other lighter tanks, depending on the faction, have the capability of switching between different types ammunition (some types may require upgrade) such as HE, HESH, HEAT, Kinetic, AT missiles, DU, and others.
- Tanks are now capable of many individual real-world upgrades such as better power plants, larger guns, armor enhancements, passive defense systems, limited AA capability, explosive reactive armor, thermal imaging, electro-reactive armor, nano self-repairing armor, and others.
- Like their real-world counterparts, tanks feature standard anti-personnel equipment such as large caliber machine guns and grenade launchers, and no longer are infantry armed only with machine guns able to go head-to-head with tanks. Additionally tank shells deal massive injury to all infantry types. Small arms cannot damage a tank.
- Active Defense Systems play a large role on the 21st century battlefield, protecting tanks and other vehicles from a variety of AT threats. Real-world systems such as Quick Kill, Arena, Trophy, Iron Fist, and others are featured in this Mod.
- All Generals in this Mod have a variety of several different defense structures to protect against an array of threats allowing generals to fortify their bases better than the original Zero Hour game and no longer is turtling handicapped by a one size fits all defense structure with very limited range and no upgrades.
- Super Weapons will be unique for all factions and even within factions and will feature devastating new capabilities. Proposed systems include HAARP, Rods from God, and other new weapons platforms, but they will require longer periods of time before they are able to fire again. Additionally, some super weapons can be thwarted, such as ICBMs, by different anti-ballistic defense platforms.
- New Generals’ Powers will be available, but done are the days when a player could rely almost exclusively on them to defeat his opponents. Heavy Bombers will not fare well against advanced long-range Anti-Air defenses and advanced factions can counter an artillery strike with units such a M-THEL or other similar defenses.
- Infantry now come in a much greater, diverse variety and are effective based on the types of weapons with which they are equipped and more elite units are stronger than standard infantry types. All factions have infantry with AT capability and AA capability although more advanced factions have better weapons and more elite, specialized types.
- Artillery, like tanks, will feature a lot of real-world units and be capable of switching between a variety of different ammunition types some of which require upgrades. They will have long range and deal damage to surrounding units and structures, but will have no close-range capability making them very vulnerable to units that close the distance.
- Aircraft will be more numerous and upgradeable, but cannot sustain but a few direct hits. This Mod will not feature units like the mini-gunner that are capable of shooting down fighters and bombers. Also, units similar to the quad cannon will have limited capability and success against air forces, especially more advanced forces.
- Balance, in this Mod, will mostly come from cost. Not all tanks or other units are created equal. A lone T-72 will fair poorly against a sole M1A2 Abrams Tank, however, less advanced factions will have methods for countering the technological superiority of other factions other than quantity alone.
- This Mod duplicates most real-world modern military units, but there will be quite a few concept weapons, especially for more technologically advanced generals.
- There are many maps that will be added that provide adequate room for base construction as well as a large battle space as opposed to being stacked side by side.
- New Factions representing all the major military powers around the Globe including the U.S.A., Europe, Russia, China, Asia, and the Arab World complete with new generals. There will be some additional countries possibly added (no A.I.) such as Israel or India.
- Epic Units will be featured in this Mod (one per general) that are very well protected, and pack a lot of punch, but they will be very costly and require promotion.
- And much, much more.
